Who we are
Mecklenburg Employees Association was formed in 2024 as a direct response to the Mecklenburg County Manager and Board of County Commissioners regular removal of employee benefits.
Lifetime health insurance coverage, longevity pay, the slow degradation of health insurance benefits, a workplace culture that treats workers as elementary school students, and finally the removal of any scheduled Work From Home have combined to remove any incentive to continue working at Mecklenburg County.
What that leaves us with are the true believers in community support and those simply collecting a paycheck. All workers who are here to do great work for fair pay have left for private industry, where the pay is higher and the stress lower.
Mecklenburg County does far more than basic governance. We support the elderly with food and nutrition services, we support Veterans, we provide Social Services, we provide Public Health support during outbreaks, we do everything we do for the Residents of Mecklenburg County. Everything from the Historic Landmarks Commission to the websites that enable Residents to interact with their elected officials.
Workers have tirelessly given our time measured in decades to this service and our leadership has decided that service isn’t worth keeping, so we now stand up for ourselves and for the continuance of services we provide.
Without Great Workers there is no Great County.
